Why do we celebrate Oktoberfest in September?
Well, the last day of the festival has a fixed spot on the first Sunday of October. As it grew and became a crowd favorite the organizers lengthened the fesitval and worked back from that Sunday- so as to take advantage of Septembers warmer weather. Not the romantic answer I had imagined, but there it is.
So, what’s involved in this Bavarian bash in Breck? A massive street party with dirndl (DEERN-dul) dresses and lederhosen (LAY-der-hozen) shorts, German grub and brews, games and live music! It’s kind of a big deal, with a BIG crowd; but, no pets please.
By the way, entry is FREE! But, bring those dollars for beer, brats and a commemorative stein- as seen below.
